The Prisoners’ Union set out its position on planned changes to the rules on prisoners’ phone calls.
Contact with family is one of the most important factors that help a person return to society after a sentence and not reoffend. The right to family life is protected by Article 8 of the European Convention on Human Rights, so any restrictions on calls must be lawful, justified and proportionate.
